The innovative SHBox system in synergy with BIM for infrastructure monitoring

Infrastructure safety is at the core of Sysdev’s mission, an industry leader working for years to improve the monitoring of architectural structures. The most significant achievement in this direction is the creation of the innovative SHBox solution: the first “black box” for infrastructure.
The SHBox system can remotely assess the structural condition of buildings and infrastructure such as bridges, viaducts, and tunnels. Through wireless multi-sensor nodes, it is capable of detecting a wide range of parameters, including deformation, displacement, temperature, tilt, and seismic events. The data is then transmitted to an intuitive and easy-to-use cloud platform for processing, storage, and visualization.
How does SHBox integrate with Building Information Modeling (BIM)?
The data collected by SHBox can provide valuable insights to BIM models. This integrated digital model can then become a virtuous tool for both routine and extraordinary infrastructure maintenance.
Key SHBox features integrated with BIM:
- Continuous Monitoring: SHBox collects real-time structural data, offering a constant view of infrastructure conditions. By integrating this data with BIM, it can be overlaid on digital models, highlighting any anomalies or issues.
- Predictive Maintenance: Using advanced analysis, SHBox can detect potential problems before they become critical. Integrating this data with BIM enables proactive maintenance scheduling, reducing costs and downtime.
- Better Decision-Making: BIM integration allows for structural data to be viewed within a broader context, helping to better understand the impact of each intervention and streamlining decision-making processes.
- Operational Efficiency: Combining SHBox with BIM improves resource management and collaboration between teams handling infrastructure maintenance, optimizing operations as a whole.
BIM Will Be Mandatory for Public Works Starting January 1, 2025
By 2025, the mandatory use of BIM will apply to a wide range of public projects exceeding one million euros. This is outlined in the new Public Procurement Code (D.lgs. 36/2023), which continues the framework established by the previous code and the Ministerial Decree 312/2021, published on September 3, 2021.
Given this decree, public administrations must quickly adopt this technology and do so as effectively as possible.
In this context, adopting the SHBox system in synergy with BIM is a strategically important choice for managing Italian infrastructure with increasing precision and technology.
